Description

Playshop Leader: Geetha Sridhar

Geetha is an exponent and teacher of the classical Indian dance, Bharathanatyam. It is a composite dance form combining elements of rhythm, music, poetry, drama and architecture. In its traditional form it is subject to a very precise and codified grammar, but in practice it is a flexible and dynamic art which lends itself to contemporary interpretations. Physically, the dance is characterised by energetic footwork combined with intricate hand movements and mime, quite often employed in a narrative mode, but also as an exhibition of pure dance.

She is also an expert in the art of Kolam, a floor art that is indigenous to Tamil Nadu in India. The significance of Kolam is to welcome welfare. These are patterns that are drawn around a dotted grid that are mathematically designed to create a Kolam design. It has a soothing effect on children when they practice and patent their own designs.
