My name is Maralin Cottenham, I work from my home studio in Burnham. I like to create work that delivers a message, so I was thrilled to paint a lamppost in Slough as part of the rejuvenation project. I painted a Phoenix rising from the flames to represent the rebirth of Slough. The wording ‘RISE UP’ is a direct message to the community. When you are knocked down in life you can rise up stronger than ever, and start anew. The mythical Phoenix’s cyclic regeneration is a great symbol, reflecting the hopes of the people for Slough.
I paint using various mediums such as acrylics, watercolours, inks and oil pastels. I enjoy the challenge of painting onto different surfaces. I love unusual projects and the chance to convey a meaning through art. I’m passionate about painting people, animals, flowers and abstract but am happy to paint any subject. In the past I have designed work sold in three main retailers. These days I like the freedom to express myself as an artist on meaningful projects.
